Meals on Wheels Japan

There was the first Japan-Austraria Symposium on Meals on Wheels which we held at Setagaya in 1985. The President of the South Australia Meals on Wheels Association was a guest speaker and suggested us to establish a nation-wide organization to strengthen to stand solidly together each groups. This made us to have established a network organization of various area throughout the county, and Fuki-no-Toh have been taking part of its secretarial office since its establishment.
National Organization offers a couple of services to get public understanding and awareness of neccessity of meal services carried out by residents in our own local community such as:

1) To set a meeting point for each member organization,
2) Public relations, advertising and diffurion activities by ways of diversified events, symposia, seminars to promote meal services,
3) Permanent clerk ofEce for counselling and advices.

However, in our county, the issues regarding meals used to have been regarded with family affairs for many years. Therefore, it is hard for voluntary groups to secure kitchens and its space because its difficulties to get public financial assistance and support. Tnus there we still small number of groups who are operating to serve it from Monday thru Friday.

In order to cope with such difficulties, we gave our approval of ''National and Intemational Meals on Wheels Day'' on the first Wednesday of September which was addressed by Australian esteemed colleagues in 1997. We are appealing to the society the importance of meal services carried out by volunteers by a couple of ways such as introduction of common dessert by every groups throughout the country, and advertising with posters to appeal the Meals on Wheels Day.
